INTELLIGENT ENERGY
For those of us that practise Reiki it is a well established fact that the energy we channel is ‘intelligent’. Some believe that it is ‘innately intelligent’ due to the energies Divine origins. Yet others believe that the energies intelligence is because of the spirit guides that help to direct the energy when treating someone. I’m sure many of us have noticed that the energy moves to where it is needed in the recipients body and not necessarily where we direct it.
Some people believe that no matter how inexperienced the practitioner is and no matter what hand positions are used, or whether the practitioner can work intuitively the Reiki will still work perfectly well. This would obviously imply that we could hold some-ones hand for an hour and the Reiki would automatically go to the areas in the body where it is needed and we would simply become bystanders.
Another opinion is that the practitioner can go some way towards enhancing the Reiki by intuitively placing their hands rather then placing them in set positions, using intent to direct the Reiki, having knowledge of the meridian system and using other ways to artificially increase the flow of Reiki energy.
I would tend towards the first view. If Reiki is intelligent and we are merely the instrument/channel for that energy, then why do we need to try and direct it. I will give you an example of an experience I had some time ago. My experience involved Spiritual healing but again this is an intelligent energy from the same source as Reiki, in fact I believe that it is one of the same
WHY DO WE USE HAND POSITIONS?
I went for a Spiritual Healing session and the healer stood with her hands on my shoulders for the full 45 minutes. I am a Spiritual healer myself and spent 2 years training. During this time, much as with Reiki I was taught hand positions and the fact that the energy is intelligent and would go where it was needed. So in view of this why do we use hand positions? Well my personal opinion is that we use the hand positions for two reasons: -
-
To make use feel better about giving the Reiki or Spiritual Healing that is we feel like we are physically doing something
-
To make the recipient feel that something is being done – especially if we are charging for our services.
I know both of these points will be controversial, but think about it. From the practitioners point of view: -
-
You stand with your hands on someone’s shoulders for 1 hour, you might feel you are not giving them the Reiki they need.
From the recipients point of view, not really understanding the mechanics of the process :-
-
I spent x amount of money on a Reiki session and all they did was stand with their hands on my shoulders for an hour.
Of course I know this isn’t the case but it could be misconstrued. I know that some of the most profound healing has occurred when a healer has just momentarily touched the person. Jesus didn’t spend an hour using hand positions and he was one of the greatest healers who has ever walked on Earth.
