As a spiritual healer of some years, the answer is quite categorically ‘No’ we are not at risk. The training for a spiritual healer is two years. For that two years you are a ‘Probationer’ and work with a ‘Full’ healer.
Unlike Reiki there are no symbols or rituals to follow, but you will be attuned. However there are training requirements. The United Kingdom Government guidelines state that: -
**
-
A therapy must be able to demonstrate beyond reasonable doubt that it is effective, no matter how difficult that may be.
-
It must show that it has an established and recognised governing body.
-
It must also show that it is based on a systematic body of knowledge, which need no be wholly scientific in the conventional sense, but which should be somehow compatible with the general body of knowledge.
-
The therapists practising the therapy should have a reasonable working relationship with the medical doctors.
-
There must be a recognised course of training, standard throughout the therapy, with demonstrably adequate examinations which make use of external examiners.
-
There must be an acceptable code of conduct regulating the relationships with patient and with members of other professions. There must also be a clear indication that members are bound by this code of conduct, in terms of disciplinary procedures.
-
Patients must be safeguarded at all times.
-
Patients should be advised to notify their General Practitioners that they are consulting the therapist.

So what are the qualifications needed to become a spiritual healer. The answer is none. Healing is an innate gift and not a function of academic study. People from all walks of life and educational ability can have the gift of healing.
Spiritual healing is a compliment to conventional medicine, not an alternative. Therefore there is no need for the healer to study as no medical diagnosis is required, this being the responsibility of the medical profession. Because of this, the healer is obliged to follow a strict ‘Code of Conduct’.
Before a person can be accepted as a healer, it must be established that the person has potential as a healer. This is a matter of judgement of an experienced senior healer. The potential healer must also be: – of good character, mentally and emotionally balanced and in good health, should be nominated by two sponsors who can vouch for them and is capable of ensuring records are kept.
During the two years probationary period the potential healer must include in the learning: – meditation, relaxation and visualisation, the law and it’s bearing on healing, Confederation of Healers Organisations ‘Code of Conduct’, including insurance, CHO’s Disciplinary Procedures, communication and behaviour with doctors and patients, record keeping and confidentiality, healing by practical experience under supervision, elementary counselling and the positions and functions of the main organs of the body.
Acceptance as a full healer/qualified practitioner comes about when an experienced senior healer deems that the probationer has the healing potential and testimonials from four different patients have been produced and the probationer has proved that they have an understanding of the seriousness of the training. References are also taken. Certificate of membership is then given to the individual. This confirms the healers status and in effect gives the healer a formal licence to practice. There are various Spiritual healing training associations. Most counties in the United kingdom have them and they are usually affiliated to other recognised healing organisations.
Spiritual healing has been practised for thousands of years by various communities throughout the world. In the past it was thought that the ‘gift of healing’ was only given to kings, priests, rabbi’s, monks, elders, witch doctors and so on. It is now understood that anyone can have the ‘gift of healing’.
The source of Spiritual healing is recognised as being of God, Great Spirit, the Divine or whatever your belief system interprets this to be. It does not use manipulation, pressure or massage so is perfect for any condition. The healing treats the whole body mind, body and spirit. The patient/client will only absorb the healing they need. There are no side effects and there is no way that the patient/client can overdose.
The questions I would ask is: – ‘Did anyone query Jesus?’, ‘Did they ask whether they were at risk?’.
Jesus was probably the greatest spiritual healer that ever walked the earth. Spiritual healers today are no different. It’s the human race that have changed.
